Restoring Function, So You Can Enjoy Your Life.
Pain has a way of making your world smaller. You stop taking the stairs, and think twice about traveling. You give up the morning run, the round of golf, the afternoon in the garden, or getting down on the floor with your grandkids because you know getting back up is going to hurt.
At Desert Sky Spine & Pain, we believe good pain care should be about more than getting you through the day, it should help you get back to living it.
Since Desert Sky was founded in Southern Arizona, our practice has grown considerably, but the philosophy behind our care has remained remarkably consistent: understand the person, find the source of the pain, and focus treatment on restoring function.
Today, our team includes physicians and advanced practice providers with experience across interventional pain medicine, physical medicine and rehabilitation, anesthesiology, spine, sports and musculoskeletal care. Together, we provide comprehensive pain care for patients throughout Southern Arizona, from evaluation and conservative treatment to advanced minimally invasive procedures.
Focused on Function
This idea has been part of Desert Sky from the beginning.
Our founder, Dr. Thomas Coury, is double board-certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine. Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, or PM&R, is fundamentally concerned with helping people improve function when injury, disease, pain, or disability interferes with the way the body moves and works.
That focus continues to shape the way we practice today.
Our physicians come from different medical backgrounds and bring different areas of expertise to Desert Sky, but they share an approach to care centered on understanding the source of pain, considering the whole patient, and finding the most appropriate way to improve function.
Sometimes that begins with a conservative approach, like a targeted injection to reduce inflammation or provide valuable diagnostic information.
For other patients, an advanced minimally invasive procedure may provide an option when more conservative treatments have not provided enough improvement.
And sometimes the appropriate next step is another specialist or a surgical evaluation.
The goal isn’t to perform a procedure, but to help you make meaningful progress.
Here at Desert Sky Spine & Pain, We Believe...
Your Body Is Remarkably Complex.
Pain in one place may originate somewhere else entirely. We look beyond the location of your symptoms to understand the structures, nerves, joints, and other factors that may be contributing.
You Deserve to Understand Your Own Care.
Patients should be able to ask questions, understand their diagnosis, know why a treatment is being recommended, and participate meaningfully in decisions about their health.
Movement Matters.
Pain often causes people to move less, and over time that loss of movement can affect strength, mobility, confidence, and independence. Whenever medically appropriate, we want treatment to support a return to movement and function.
Pain Management Should Have a Purpose.
There are times when managing chronic pain is necessary. But our goal is never simply to chase a number on a pain scale. Treatment should support better function, greater independence, and a better quality of life.
More Advanced Doesn’t Automatically Mean Better.
We are proud to offer sophisticated interventional and minimally invasive treatments, but the best treatment is the one that is appropriate for the patient. Sometimes that is an advanced procedure. Sometimes it isn’t.
You Are More Than the Part of You That Hurts.
Your work, family, hobbies, and goals matter when we decide how to treat your pain.
We don’t believe in simply dulling your pain,
We want your body to be able to HEAL from pain, permanently.
get your pain treated as smoothly as possible
