Nerve Block
A Nerve Block is an injection of local anesthetic and steroids directly to the angry nerves to control chronic and debilitating pain. It is often used as a non-invasive option in place of surgery. Nerve Blocks can also be used to diagnose the location and source of pain (see nerve ablation).
This is one of few instances where it sounds sort of like what it is. A Nerve Block blocks pain. This can be both diagnostic (telling us where the source of pain is coming from) as well as therapeutic (actually fixing the source of inflammation).
Nerve Blocks offer immediate pain relief. We love seeing our patients return to their lives as quickly as possible so this is a satisfying option for those who have suffered with daily pain and are finally able to walk, play with their children, travel etc without fear of crippling pain. It is also relatively non-invasive and another excellent opioid-free option for pain.
Nerve Blocks work well for numerous conditions from arthritis pain, to headaches, back, knee, and shoulder pain as well as pain following surgery.
